Design By Nature

Objective

Hubbub launched Design By Nature to unleash the vast talent of student designers to create more impactful solutions to the biggest environmental challenges facing the UK.

Approach

Students increasingly want to contribute positively to society and are questioning designs that encourage over-consumption. To address this, Hubbub ran "living briefs" in 2020-2021, focused on issues like fast fashion and air pollution. The Design By Nature competition gave students a supportive space to experiment with ideas and see how design can tackle environmental problems. I organised talks, workshops, and a social media campaign to engage students directly.

Successful ideas received seed funding, trial opportunities, and expert guidance.

Result

Design By Nature engaged 233 students across 11 UK universities, with 71+ submitting ideas. The campaign film had 174k+ views, and winning ideas were featured in Design Week and Envirotec.
